Opera Point Events have replaced The Truffle Group, and now manage The Utzon Room, The Summer Pavillion, Opera Point Marquee, the Southern Forecourt and the Northern Foyers of both the Opera Theatre and Concert Hall. The venue held an event recently to introduce Simon Sandall’s food and the new Opera Point Events team and re-establish the Opera House as the place of choice for Sydney’s top events. About 120 guests from the media, professional conference organisers, inbound operators and event managers attended.

Newcastle Showcase
The regional New South Wales city of Newcastle showcased its latest and greatest at a special event held at The Westin Sydney. A similar event with be held in Melbourne in June. Pictured at the Sydney event were: Karen Franks and Kristy Salmon, both from Ella Bache; Andrew Hills of Ibis Newcastle with Greg and Lesley McGuinness of CHS Wholesalers; and Caroline Forbes and Jessica Sanders of Westpac.

January ClubMEA at Nicks Bondi Beach
MEA started the year off with drinks and canapés at Nick’s Bondi Beach Pavilion in January where industry players enjoyed the chance to network and catch up. The team from Fusion Hair & Body even offered manicures and makeovers to those willing.

Jet Cruiser
Accor and Magistic Cruises held its first and only media launch of the Jetcruiser, the newest and fastest jetboat to grace Sydney’s harbour. The event began with a 45-minute cruise which switched from serene to speedy as the 1200-horsepower jetboat was thrown into full throttle. The group then boarded the Magistic to enjoy drinks and canapés before returning to Circular Quay.

Waitangi Day Golf Classic 2007
Mice.net magazine sponsored Hole 9 at the Waitangi Day Golf Classic at the Manly Golf Club, NSW held in February – and as such, bore witness to some pretty interesting golf course antics. The day itself was held by Millennium, Copthorne and Kingsgate Hotels and Resorts, and AVIS New Zealand, with money raised going to Canteen.

On hallowed turf
Hosted buyers and exhibitors at the AIME exhibition were privileged to be able to walk on the hallowed turf of the MCG on the night prior to the event getting underway. For non-Melbourne residents this was described as being a “big thing”. The ground is usually off limits to all and sundry. Pictured are some international visitors to AIME with a few larger than life entertainers.

Basil pays a visit
Basil Fawlty and his wife Sybil made a visit to ECQ held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre in March, taking time to wander the aisles in-between bickering with one another. They are pictured here with Felicity Zadro of Staging Rentals & Construction Services and BT Publishing’s very own Geoff Batt-Rawden, who was manning a stand at ECQ.
