Purpose Built Theatre by Way Out Theatreworks, introduced to delegates attending last year’s MEA conference on the Gold Coast, is designed to support what the client wants to say in an edgy, fun, entertaining and theatrical way.
It is continuing to be popular for meetings groups, with Way Out Theatreworks last month supplying the performance piece for the opening ceremony of the 9th Steadfast Convention at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.
But how does it work?
Rather than a regurgitated piece of entertainment, Purpose Built Theatre is a tailor written, one-off script penned by a professional writer, developed and rehearsed with a theatre director and stage actors ready to perform for your event. The unique and personalised end product is designed to work as a springboard for any session/workshop or to launch your product with the WOW factor.
As Way Out Theatreworks’ Monica Gaudion-Hurford explains, it’s more than just fun entertainment.
“It’s a tool to communicate the core message and most importantly support your very important message,” she explains.
“For those special events where a new product, service or conference requires the razzamatazz of an exciting and stimulating launch ceremony, and where your guests need to become cognisant with the benefits of your innovation and message, then a tailored theatrical presentation sprinkled with humour, fabulous props and lighting to create a superb platform for the spectacular release of your latest innovation may be the answer.”
The package includes:
• Client meetings to develop an end product that will fully meet and support the client’s objectives.
• Writer’s brief/concept to the client
• Synopsis and scriptwriting and direction
• Actor’s rehearsal and performance
• Soundtrack
• Basic costumes and basic props (specialised costumes extra)
• Performance time up to approx. 10 mins
Ms Gaudion-Hurford says the benefits of using Purpose Built Theatre is that audience retention is greater if they see and hear the message.
“People remember stories – they are not a passive but an active participant,” she says.
“People learn more readily and retain more information when learning is reinforced by visualisation. You can entertain, inform, excite and even shock an audience by the proper integration of visual images into virtually any exchange of information.”
