To all those event planners who took the time and supplied us with case studies of their events for our annual publication ECA a heartfelt thanks. The publication is being released at AIME and other shows around the country and internationally in 2007. We believe that there’s nothing else like it in the Australian marketplace. And we hope that you do too!

From one of our readers… I recently attended a tourism industry forum where we were seated cabaret style. Of the seven people at my table, two of them were on their PDAs while the speaker was presenting. If they are so busy that they can’t be away from their emails for a few hours, then why attend? Not only is it rude to the speaker, but for the five others sitting at the table - the beep beep of the PDA, supposedly placed on “quiet” mode was really annoying...

Isn’t it refreshing that one of our industry stalwarts isn’t afraid to tell you his story, even when it’s not a good one. We’re talking here about Russell Bennett of Staging Dimensions, which is or has just been fined for an OH&S breach. Rather than not talk about the incident Russell has opened up and revealed all, urging other event companies to ensure they don’t get into a similar situation. This is truly an admirable stance and one that benefits the industry as a whole. Thanks Russell and Staging Dimensions for your honesty in this matter.

It was meant to happen some time last year, and then we were pretty sure that it was going to be announced and unveiled in January of this year. But it hasn’t! We’re talking about Tourism Australia’s much-anticipated business events campaign. Perhaps with the new GM in place (Geoff Buckley) we can expect something very soon. We hope so because like many in the industry we’re getting a little tired of waiting.

From our feature on how the year is shaping up for the business events industry it all appears to be good news. A number of operators mention short lead times, which has certainly been a reality for some time now, but on the whole the industry is apparently looking very rosy indeed. We trust that your business is also booming.
