WHO: BOC
WHAT: BOC Rewards and Recognition Dinner
WHEN: Friday, October 27, 2006
WHERE: Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf Pirrama Road, Pyrmont Point, NSW
WHY: While recognising key performers and achievers within the business, an extra injection of fun into the evening’s BOC Rewards and Recognition Dinner was vital. Utilising the Drum Cafe as an ice breaker to kick off the event was to make it not only fun, but to unify and strengthen bonds between the groups of people there.
PAX: 120 pax BOC delegates from across all areas of the company. The annual BOC Rewards and Recognition Dinner is a highly sought after ticket within the company.
BUDGET: Top Secret

HOW: With a team of professional musicians, and a drum for each participant, The Drum Café facilitates a memorable and interactive musical experience. Before BOC delegates arrive, The Drum Café set on each individual chair a hand carved African Djembe drum. The stage was set with a massive 44 gallon bass drum, doun douns and Djembes for the Drum Café team. As guests arrived and mingled over drinks and canapés, a single Drum Café team member took to the stage. Weaving a simple melody on the doun douns, increasing interest was stirred in the gathering crowd as the music became layered with the introduction of the bass drum and then rhythm Djembe. Finally, as the flying melody of Saxophone and the flare of the soloing Master Drummer completed the stage line up, director and facilitator Lance Radus directed the inquisitive group to take their seats and pick up their drums.

The rhythm and pulse began… the first 15 minutes of the drum circle was completely non-verbal, with Lance orchestrating an atmosphere of anticipation and excitement. A unique and dynamic synergy was brought into the room and in no time the delegates were transformed into one unified musical ensemble.

After finishing their 30-minute musical journey on an exhilarating climax, entrees and drinks made their way around the buzzing room.

SPECIAL TOUCHES: The BOC group had come from all parts of Australia and NZ, so in most cases, co-workers had heard of one another but not actually met until that night. The interactive nature of the Drum Café broke the ice, pumped up the room and got everyone grooving to one beat, as one team. The Drum Café was able to provide a fun and interactive hands-on approach to understanding each other’s function in building a stronger team!

IN SUMMARY: The drumming provided a fantastic and energising forum to get everyone bonded, and is a powerful team-building activity that certainly brought the ‘WOW’ factor to the event.
