NAME: ‘Decadence’ – the MEA NSW Christmas Party 2006 at Doltone House, Pyrmont.
ORGANISERS: Lisa J Martin (event manager, Toni Brasch Event Management), Mark Magennis and Peter Fulton (event design and decorators, Decorative Events), Samantha Hawkins and Alison Gowland (venue coordinators, Doltone House), Doug Cardew (technical director, Insight Events), Bethanie Tobin (entertainment director, NHM Entertainment), and Anne Camenzind and Amanda Petrie (MEA).
PAX: 360
BUDGET: Tight!

WHAT YOU DID: On arrival, drinks and canapés were served on the deck overlooking Sydney Harbour. The doors to the venue opened and guests entered the room accompanied by the magical voice of young talent, Lauren Easton. The room was set with luscious lounges and cushions on raised platforms, chandeliers, dramatic draping, large urns of roses, food stations serving oysters, soup and salmon, a champagne bar and waiters with tray service offering delicious canapés. Various musical highlights throughout the evening culminated in a DJ and dancing.

SPECIAL TOUCHES: The magnificent Decadence Café, a French patisserie set with Parisienne-style tables and chairs, candelabras, vases of roses and a gourmet’s delight of pastries, desserts and chocolates. In keeping with the evening’s theme, ladies were spoilt with the luxuries of the powder room supplied by Oh de Toilette. The photo studio set with chaise longue, palms, draping and props was a great success and kept Trevor from EventPix busy all night. An eye-catching e-marketing campaign was devised to gradually reveal details of the event to maintain a high level of interest in the lead up and to maximise attendance.

CHALLENGES: Creating a fantastic event for a discerning audience with a tight budget at a very busy time for the industry. Getting the balance of entertainment right so that guests could network throughout the evening.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES: Organisers were fortunate that their sponsoring partners were so generous and united in the common goal of creating a top-notch event representative of their best efforts to impress those attending.

CLIENT'S COMMENTS: “True MEA style – elegant, decadent and one of the best networking functions of the year.” – Ray Shaw, Chairman, Event Planners Australia
