The Sydney Marriott Hotel has been described as boutique in size but grand in style and service. Positioned on picturesque Hyde Park, in the epicentre of the business, cultural, theatre, sports and boutique retail centre of Sydney, the property has recently completed a multi-million dollar refurbishment which according to general manager, Ruwan Peiris, has taken the already-popular venue to a new level of style and comfort.
“Over the last two years we’ve been doing a refurbishment of the whole hotel. We’ve covered all public areas – lobby, reception desk area, bar and lounge areas – as well as all rooms,” he explains.
“We now have the Marriott ‘Revive’ bedding package for the comfort of our guests, and have seen the results in our guest satisfaction surveys.”
The ‘Revive’ bedding package includes 300 thread count sheeting, quilted top mattresses and quality pillows, providing guests with every possibility for a wonderful night’s sleep.
And, with a growing number of corporate residential conferences, a good night’s sleep is just the ticket. The refurbishment program has also extended to the Sydney Marriott’s function rooms, the majority of which have the benefit of natural light.
“Our main conference room, the Ibis, seats up to 250 people, and we have a range of smaller meeting spaces where we can do between 60 and 80 delegates,” Mr Peiris explains.
“The Cook Room is our medium space, and we also offer a range of smaller rooms suitable for between 20 and 30, plus we have a hotel boardroom which seats 12.
“We’re a very strong corporate hotel. Most of our residents are corporate guests, and we also get international visitation for the leisure market.
“We do quite a few residential conferences which is why we’ve launched the ‘Twice is Good’ promotion.”
In a nutshell the ‘Twice is Good’ promotion gives two free rooms for every 25 rooms booked for a conference. In fact, whatever special standard offers the property was offering, it’s now doubling it.
“We’re just getting it [this promotion] out into the market at the moment, and it’s running through to the 31st of March,” Mr Peiris says.
“What we’re hoping to do is get enough people as we can to have a look at our refurbished hotel. So far it’s been working very well.”
As well as its new quality the Sydney Marriott is also becoming more widely recognised for its quality food and beverage options. The team is led by executive chef Mohammed Tahir, who is originally from Afghanistan, grew up in Pakistan and worked in Europe. He brings to the property an eclectic blend of cuisine in a style very much his own.
