The latest attraction at Night Safari is Ulu Ulu, a new restaurant serving an extensive array of local favourites and international cuisine! With Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant offering a unique dining experience amidst a rainforest ambience, the world’s first nocturnal zoo may well become known for its culinary delights as well!
“Night Safari continues to draw outstanding accolades from visitors and has been accorded the Singapore Tourism Board’s ‘Best Leisure Attraction Award’ six times. While our focus is on generating interest in animal conservation, we are also committed to creating a variety of offerings that will further enhance the visitor experience. With Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant now open and the recently refurbished Bongo Burgers, visitors have an extensive variety of dining choices. Any one who is looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life will also enjoy what Night Safari restaurants have to offer,” says Ms Fanny Lai, Executive Director of Singapore Zoo and Night Safari.
The 600-seater Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant is located at the entrance of Night Safari, which is nestled in 40 hectares of lush secondary forest. Spanning 2,000 square metres, the restaurant’s design style may perhaps be termed as traditional ethnic architectural accents melded with a generous use of natural materials such as recycled wood. Coupled with the clever use of ambient lighting, the restaurant integrates well with the natural surroundings, evoking a kampong (traditional village) feel among diners.
The restaurant is based on a fictional story of a Penghulu (village chief) who believed that cultures are intrinsically linked to food. Thus he welcomed all opportunities to meet friends from other countries to share their culinary heritage with the villagers. He tasked his fourth wife, the youngest and most beautiful, to be in charge of the village’s Rumah Ibu (dining hall) where villagers would gather regularly to learn and partake in the feast. Today his descendents continue this legacy in honour of their much-revered late Penghulu at Night Safari’s Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant.
Buffet Option
Diners can opt for al fresco or indoor dining, buffet or a-la carte. The buffet offers “Appetizers”, “Soup and Main Course” and “Desserts”. For appetizers and main courses, diners are spoilt for choice – with eight selections in the former and 10 hot dish selections in the latter category.
Five food stations for a-la carte diners
Diners who prefer a-la carte meals can choose from five food stations including popular favourites such as “Indian Tandoor and Curries”, “Grilled Food”, “From the Woks”, and “Noodles and Roast Meats”. The variety of food showcased at these stations is astounding – from unforgettable local staples to sizzling wok specials to tantalising seafood surprises. End the evening on a high note of sweetness with the extensive dessert menu.
Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant opens from 6pm to 12 midnight daily. A private dining area, called the Chief’s Room, can be reserved for parties of up to 16 persons, and a private function area, called Ulu Court, can accommodate up to 100 diners.
