As part of the international re-branding undertaken by ISES in the last year, the Australasian affiliate and its chapters have been working diligently on developing a new ISES Australasia web portal. The new site will have a slick, contemporary look and feel and will bring all three chapters and the affiliate together under one (virtual) roof. It’s the ideal way to clearly demonstrate to our members and their customers the value of ISES as a truly international presence and Australasia’s important role on this world stage. This great new tool will enable us to give members access to a range of instant information, tools and resources and also profile our members to their potential customers in a more professional and user friendly format.

The ultimate goal of the affiliate is to promote the innovation, professionalism and expertise of our members and ensure that an ISES member is the first port of call for clients who need an event professional to manage, contract or supply to their event. Many thanks must go to the tireless efforts of our task force headed up by Monica Hole in Sydney with assistance from Stephen Poole in Melbourne and Russell Bennett in Queensland.  Thanks also to our sponsor, IT Easy, who have built our new site and to Jennifer Perrin (Melbourne Secretariat) and Tanya Taylor (Sydney Secretariat) for loading all data. Our new website can be viewed at www.ises.org.au

SYDNEY

When, on July 21 of this year, I took over the reigns of the ISES Sydney Chapter from past president Brendan Burke, I knew I had a lot to live up to! In no small part because Brendan and the board had provided members with lots of great networking and educational opportunities through a series of fantastic showcase events including February’s ‘Annual Great Debate’, the ever-popular ‘Speed Networking’ event in April and, of course, the AGM & ‘James Bond’ themed gala dinner. In addition to the swearing-in of the new Sydney Board for the 2006/ 07 financial year, the gala dinner featured an amazing line up of comedic and musical talent which had everyone dancing the night away.
Since then, the new board has been dedicated to growing membership, developing strategic partnerships that create real value, finding innovative and inspired ways to promote the chapter and delivering quality showcase events that give members exceptional networking opportunities and provide ongoing education. We have been thrilled with the continued growth in attendance of these fresh, fun and informative showcases, which always attract plenty of new faces and very positive feedback from members and sponsors. The 2006 fresh event vibe culminated in the very chic ‘Sex in the City’ Christmas soiree, on November 24th, which proved to be the hit of the Sydney Christmas party circuit.

‘The year that was’ has been a positive one for the ISES Sydney Chapter and we very much look forward to taking longer leaps and bigger bounds in 2007. Thanks to all those members and sponsors who continue to support us and on behalf of the Board, I wish all mice.net readers a happy and safe Christmas and prosperous New Year.
– Michael Taylor, ISES Sydney Chapter president

MELBOURNE

The Melbourne chapter finished another great year with our beach party at New Quay Docklands, and what a year it was with educationals involving some of Melbourne’s biggest events including the Commonwealth Games and the AFL Grand Final. On the more practical side we learnt about the unique insurance issues that affect special events, food and wine, entertainment selections and copyrighting our great ideas. As ISES is an extremely diverse association, we have endeavoured to address as many relevant topics and current events as possible. This has been reflected in the attendance levels at the educationals and the number of new members joining. 2007 promises to be just as exciting with educationals starting off with more international events as Melbourne hosts the World Swimming Championships and the Grand Prix. A special thanks to the executive and function committees for all their hard work this year. It’s great to see members giving their time to support our industry. We look forward to seeing you all throughout the year.
– Peter Jones, ISES Melbourne Chapter president

QUEENSLAND

ISES Queensland held a professional development and member showcase on September 11 at the soon to be renovated Brisbane Powerhouse Theatre.  The session “Make Light Work” detailed the basics of lighting terminology, the different lighting fixtures and which lights are used for a stage wash, lectern lighting and general themeing. Guests also learnt their way around a stage. Candice Wolff from the Brisbane Sound Group presented on the latest LED technology for events and displayed some great new LCD table décor now available including lamps, ice buckets and other contemporary LED fittings.

The night was attended by 20 guests and we thank Dean Krenske from the Brisbane Powerhouse and Craig Fox from Wine n’ Dinem Catering for their sponsorship of the evening. Our November event showcased “The Villa”, the Gold Coast’s most exclusive function venue.  The title of the night “It’s all F & B to me!” featured catering from the Villa with a presentation on wines to suit courses from De Bortoli Wines. The night also showcased The Villa, and was an opportunity to experience this amazing and truly unique venue. On the membership front, ISES Queensland (Chapter in Formation) has 29 full members and we are on track with our ambitious plans to have the required 35 members needed for full affiliation to the ISES international family.
