NAME: Retailers Conference 2008
TYPE: Conference
CLIENT: Liquor industry company
BY: Directions
NO. ON ORGANISING TEAM: 4
PAX: 180
BUDGET: TOP SECRET

WHAT YOU DID: Everything from the beginning to the end – oh, and all the wonderful touches in between! Flights, ground transport, tours, events and post-touring programs! You name it, we organised it – including 190 pairs of “Manguillas”, they would be the typical psychodelic carnival sleeves worn for traditional dance! Although this is a conference, events integrated into the program are motivating enough to send any delegate into a spin. So firstly it was to find a venue that offered the combination of great conferencing space but also a destination that had the wow factor to encourage higher attendance – Red Hot “Santiago Chile”.

SPECIAL TOUCHES: Amazing events helped to create the special touches and give all attendees the feeling of wow. For example, closing down the city’s famous Central Market exclusively for a Chile Latin American Carnival. This proved to be a spectacular highlight, with delegates dancing ‘til dawn! As the market is not an events venue, it was certainly impressive to the client, who was left with “no one else has ever done this before” feeling! However, nothing can outshine the most important moment of this trip - the team-building exercise which was part of giving back to the country of Chile. Delegates were placed into 40 teams with each team given the task of building their own bike. Little did they know that instead of a team member having to ride the end result, 40 underprivileged children were transported in from around the city to receive their very own bike! Built by the hands of our delegates, you guessed it, there were tears, hugs and overwhelming smiles, let alone hundreds of photos. No one wanted to forget this special moment in their lives!

CHALLENGES: Apart from purchasing 1500 water bottles from a local grocer, all went smoothly. That was a sight to be seen: four conference organisers pushing eight shopping trolleys full of water bottles through the middle of Santiago. Anything for the client!

CLIENT’S COMMENTS: “The whole experience was well worth it. Well organised, great accommodation, meeting old friends. Attention to detail was excellent. Thanks again for a great trip. I didn’t want to leave.”
