
As a result of industry demand we felt that it was crucial to provide a resource to the events industry to allow them to keep in touch with and address ongoing staff and salary issues.
As Australia’s longest standing recruitment consultancy specialising in events we are aware, from an anecdotal standpoint, what the market trends are, which positions are in demand, and what salaries people can expect.
However, unlike many other industries, there has been no clear cut benchmark which those in the MICE industry can refer to. While we provide our clients and candidates with this information on a regular basis, we recognised that it would be extremely beneficial if this information was readily accessible to the entire industry.
We decided to carry out a formalised survey not only to provide a benchmark for event industry salaries at various skills and experience levels but to also delve deeper into trends, market changes and challenges facing job seekers and employers.
We had an excellent response to our survey and are excited to be able to present some very interesting results. Some key issues we addressed include:
• What do event staff employees rate as the most important factor for their ongoing job satisfaction?
• What has the most negative impact on event staff motivation and work productivity?
• What are the biggest challenges facing event job seekers in the event market?
• What proportion of event staff have been headhunted in the last six months?
• How readily would event staff accept a counter-offer from their current employer and what factors will make them stay?
• What proportion of event staff received proper induction periods when starting their new role and how many have received a performance appraisal in the last 12 months?
• What proportion of event staff are happy with their current salary level and how many have received a salary review in the last 12 months?
Through the production of this survey data we believe employers will be better equipped when making recruitment plans and decisions and moreover, will be able to attract and retain good quality staff for their organisations.
We genuinely hope that our 2008 Events Staff and Salary Survey will be embraced by our industry as an essential tool for addressing staff and salary issues into the future.
