NAME:
ABB Australia
TYPE: Family Fun Day
CLIENT: Sharon Adams
NO. ON ORGANISING TEAM: Kingpin Bowling Lounge – business development manager – Christine Bennetto and event co-ordinator Kate Copeland
PAX: 500
BUDGET: TOP SECRET

WHAT YOU DID:
Kingpin Bowling Lounge closed all of its three venues to the public including the Galactic Circus video games and simulators, M9 Laser Skirmish and the Kingpin Bowling Lounge. All games and activities across the three venues were switched to ‘free play’ allowing the guests to play across the three venues at their own pace. The staff at Galactic Circus also all worked the event in full carnival style costume to create a fun atmosphere.

SPECIAL TOUCHES:
We organised a face painter for the children to get their faces painted and set up an area in Galactic Circus which was nice and central. Santa made a grand entrance with Jingle Bells playing throughout all venues, and the hosts announcing his arrival on the microphone. Santa walked through the venues meeting the children and made his way to Kingpin where we had organised a Christmas throne for him to sit and meet the children one on one. We organised showbags for Santa to hand out to each child so that all the children in attendance on the day received a gift.

To encourage guests on the day to relax and play games we also organised for costumed hosts to play and interact with the guests. These hosts ran competitions, gave away prizes and really encouraged guests of all ages to try all the activities on offer – even the simulator that flips you 360 degrees!

CHALLENGES:
Blocking off all three venues from the general public for four hours in the middle of the day and distinguishing between ABB guests and general customers! Having activities to keep 500 guests of all ages (3-65) entertained and happy.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES: We armed our staff members located at the front entrance of our venues with 2-4-1 game passes to hand to general customers so that they could come back at the end of the event. Having three differently styled venues in one allowed guests of all ages to decide what suited them best. They could play games, sit and relax at the bar, or just roam and enjoy the atmosphere.

CLIENT’S COMMENT: “Thank you for making ABB’s 2007 family day such a wonderful success. Being the third event of this kind we’ve held the feedback received proved it was the best yet! There truly was something for everyone, which can be difficult when you have over 500 guests to cater for across all ages!”
- Sharon Adams, marketing & events coordinator, ABB Australia.
