WHAT YOU DID: Australian Technology Park was the home of the MTV Australia Awards 2008. MTV utilised every square inch of the events centre and held the main show in the exhibition hall. The Bay 8 Atrium was transformed into a pre-party area complete with SingStar, photo booths, manicure stations and barrels of chupa chups.
Throughout the night interviews took place from small sets created within the historic machinery display in the Locomotive Workshop. MTV loved the unique, gritty nature of the venue and stuck with the industrial theme using old storage containers to create an on-camera green room for the stars presenting and performing at the show.
Aside from having such a unique event space ATP was able to deliver MTV’s practical requirements with 14+ meeting rooms to be used as production offices, a necessity for an event of this size.
The park buzzed for the week with more than 250 MTV staff and crew working on-site and all catering done by Laissez-faire catering.
SPECIAL TOUCHES: MTV played on ATP’s existing features. The Locomotive Workshop’s historic machinery and boilers were made the backdrop for the show. The boardroom was used as an immigration shot for television with Wyclef Jean.
CHALLENGES: Working with the tenants to ensure that the events centre and business park aspects were balanced. Tenants enjoyed the buzz and even got to catch glimpses of their favourite artists walking through the ATP’s atriums.
CLIENT’S COMMENT:
What a show! The response to the award show across the globe has been fantastic. You’ll be pleased to know that all the international and national talent couldn’t believe how good the venue looked. I wanted to thank you for all your support, the ATP is an amazing location and venue. The Red Carpet also looked amazing and the feedback has been extremely positive. Thanks again.
