Everyone wants the best event. When you’re spending big bucks on communicating with your audience you want a show that will impress. How can you achieve the innovativeness and freshness required to achieve this goal?
A good place to start is with a creative, clear-thinking events team around you who know how to transform messaging into an innovative, high-impact event experience.
Injecting life and purpose into messaging in innovative ways is always an exciting challenge.
Take recognition based events. Award event profiles differ in extremes, from the celebration of one individual to the recognition of in some cases more than 50. The problem with an event recognising 50 people is that it can become a snore-fest for the rest of the audience who aren’t on the receiving end of an award – and even if you are it can be a dull way to spend four to five hours!
This is when you need a creative events team who can create and deliver the look, set design and assist in a more upbeat presentation and still meet the client’s criteria of wanting the audience to be inspired and entertained, and importantly to have a positive experience of the night.
Stepping back and dissecting the standard awards event means that you can take a different approach such as presentation “tiering”.
Firstly think about creating clustered recognition groups. This can be achieved by categorising awards and recipients. Then carefully consider how to reward each person either collectively or individually without diluting the impact of each individual contribution! For example, you may end up with three main tiers of recognition. The third tier of winners could be recognised collectively in a funky high-tech widescreen digital video or multimedia presentation complete with an upbeat sound track. A clustered presentation such as this can shave up to 45 minutes off a presentation and if executed correctly with high impact imagery projected around the room, it can deliver the same impact.
The second tier of award winners could walk on stage to receive their award and finally, high profile or top tier award winners could be recognised on stage with tightly timed “thank you” slots and the appropriate recognition. Throughout all of these presentations, a projector screens stunning high resolution vision that is impactful and re-affirms the contribution of each individual regardless of their tiering.
You might think that this approach sounds a little hierarchical? Consider this. Acknowledging 50 individuals including thank you speeches can take up a sizeable chunk of what most employees consider to be a “night out on the company” and a celebration. Splitting awards in this way may prove to be aspirational for some employees. The choice of state-of-the-art technology to deliver the vision is a no-brainer – the bigger the better in terms of letting the vision bring the room to life, and with good multimedia this is a winner. Regardless, most employees are happy to be acknowledged and rewarded but by being a little creative and thinking outside the square you can also inject much more personality and versatility into an awards night ceremony.
Regardless of the event type, greater collaboration between clients, producers and event staging companies delivers brave new events using the latest technology in new environments. Ultimately the trick is to recognise what’s really important and to act and deliver those messages flawlessly.
