Winning Tips For Hosting Conventions

WORLD FIRST - ALL SUITE HOTEL BY FOSTER AND PARTNERS Frasers Hospitality is this month (October) opening the doors to its first Gold Standard Australian project - Fraser Suites Sydney, designed by internationally renowned architects Foster and Partners. Situated in the heart of the mid city precinct adjacent to Town Hall, the stylish all suites residences feature 201 luxurious suites ranging from studios to a spectacular two level loft penthouse. Foster and Partners is renowned for building landmarks such as the historic Reichstag, the new German Parliament in Berlin, The Great Court for the British Museum, and the Chek Lap Kok International Airport in Hong Kong. “It will be the first prestigious hotel to open in the Sydney CBD following the Olympic Games and is set to raise the benchmark for designer hotels,” says general manager for Fraser Suites Sydney, David Brown.

NT island resort If you’re wanting to blend the outback beauty of Australia’s Northern Territory with an island escape then you will soon be able to do just that when the Dugong Beach Resort opens on Groote Eylandt in August 2007. Groote Eylandt is located 650km east of Darwin and 50km north of the Arnhem Land Coast. The island is described as tropical and secluded and home to untouched indigenous cultural sites and some of the best fishing spots in the world. Dugong Beach Resort will feature 60 rooms ranging from motel-style business suites and family rooms to VIP executive bungalows.

New name for Bali hideaway Bali’s unique lagoon-styled resort, The Laguna Resort & Spa Nusa Dua (formerly the Sheraton Laguna Nusa Dua Bali) has a new look – and a new name – following a US$7.5 million renovation and refurbishment program. As part of the extensive renovation program, the hotel’s lobby has been restored in the style of old Batavia, echoing the days of plantations and grand colonial estates. The 270 guest rooms and suites received complete refurbishment and all now offer 42 inch plasma screen TVs and in-room DVD players to guests. Broadband internet access is available in all rooms and the property also offers wireless access throughout the resort. Access to the 5000 square metres of swimmable lagoons is available from 48 rooms and suites on the ground floor. The rooms have been decorated with carved walls using locally-sourced Palimanan stone and feature polished teak floors, burl wood cabinetry and hand-woven carpets. A deluxe bed, made exclusively for The Laguna, offers the ultimate in luxurious sleeping comfort.

Kiama property joins Constellation The Australis Kiama Blue is the latest addition to the Constellation Hotel Group Australis resort brand of managed properties. Developed by Colys Group, Australis Kiama Blue features 16 ultra-modern serviced apartments, with many overlooking Kiama Harbour. The apartments offer studio, one and two bedroom floor plans, with balconies, large bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen and dining areas, and complimentary undercover car parking. Constellation Hotel Group, general manager Jonathan Wooller, says Australis Kiama Blue’s apartment-style accommodation is intended to suit the short-break and long-stay accommodation market, and is particularly accessible from Sydney (90 minutes drive) and Canberra (two hours drive). “It also has enormous potential for the conferencing and events market, and phase two of the development includes a dedicated conference centre which we expect will be complete by mid to late 2007,” Mr Wooller said.

The conference edge at Newport Mirage
A lot has changed at the Newport Mirage in Sydney’s north in the past six months, and it’s all good. Not only does the property offer a range of excellent meetings facilities for small to medium-sized groups (up to a maximum of 94 guests) but its location is such that it offers so many options for group activity “beyond the ballroom”. Yacht racing on Pittwater, beach Olympics, high ropes adventures, dragon-boat racing, or a game of golf at one of the many nearby golf courses, the property is uniquely positioned to offer so much to conference groups. And for dining options they only have to walk across the road to the stunning The Terrace on Pittwater at the Newport Arms Hotel. The Terrace has been completely renovated and is now one of the northern beaches hottest dining experiences. While enjoying stunning views of Pittwater delegates and guests can savour mouth-watering contemporary cuisine, sip fine wines and relax in the ambient surroundings. The venue is already proving popular with groups and is only growing in stature. A fresh contemporary menu and an expanded grill selection with special focus on MSA graded quality steaks is sure to please the most avid steak-lover. The restaurant boasts the largest wine list selection (250+) on the northern beaches complimented by Riedel glassware. The wines are displayed in a custom-built temperature controlled wine room facility which is also a design feature in the restaurant. Many of the rare and limited release wines are out of the Bayfield family’s wine vault after being carefully collected over the past 20+ years. The total facility upgrade of the 160-seat restaurant was in excess of $500,000.
