Winning Tips For Hosting Conventions

OBJECTIVE: Following a global re-branding The MotivAction Group was asked by Manpower Services Australia to deliver a 12-month award and recognition scheme that would improve service delivery and sales performance by encouraging behaviour around Manpower’s global values and brand attributes. The scheme needed to engage 700 employees and be delivered across Australia and New Zealand.

PLANNING: With a lead time of two months we worked in partnership with Manpower to design a cost effective and easy to administer scheme with the following parameters:
• Increase the amount of recognition across the company
• Provide a format for staff to recognise appropriate behaviors
• Provide a fair and consistent system for recognition and awards
• Increase awareness and understanding of brand attributes
• Encourage behaviour around the brand attributes
• Working with Manpower’s brand marketing team we created an on-brand identity for the scheme and communication materials.

SOLUTION: The solution was Manpower Shout! a ‘peer to peer’ award and recognition scheme that gives everyone at Manpower Australia and New Zealand the ability to instantly recognise the behaviour of their colleagues. The central idea is simple. Each quarter every employee receives a Shout! recognition chequebook which acts as a communications tool and enables everyone to recognise each other up, down and across the organisation.

The Shout! cheques are awarded by anyone, to anyone for behaviour aligned to the Manpower global values. They can be awarded to individuals and to teams. A duplicate of every recognition cheque is posted to an easily accessible collection point throughout the organisation and each month there is a draw. Various awards are won monthly, quarterly and annually and range from store vouchers, full day experiences through to year end overseas trips of a lifetime.

Information on the number and type of recognitions being made is summarised, evaluated and reported on a monthly basis. This information provides Manpower the ongoing ability to evaluate how the brand attributes are understood and applied. An ongoing communication campaign keeps Shout! at the forefront of people’s minds. This communication campaign includes desk calendars, quarterly posters, weekly email updates, monthly live draws and a Shout! website. The Shout! website is updated on a weekly basis with recognition examples and ongoing scheme information. The recognition examples help people understand the brand attributes and evidence how they can be applied. The monthly draws create a ‘live’ opportunity to promote Shout! On a draw date the whole company dials into a conference and listens live as Senior Managers draw winners. The first aim of Shout! is to significantly increase the amount of recognition that happens across the company and then to leverage that recognition to drive behaviour and performance.

RESULT: In just three months Shout! generated more than 1000 recognitions. This represents a significant increase in the amount of recognition across the organisation. This increase is already having a positive effect on employee motivation and engagement. The type of recognitions being made proves an increased understanding of the brand attributes and associated behaviours.
CLIENT’S COMMENT: “Manpower’s vision to lead in the creation and delivery of services that en

ble our clients to win in the changing world of work together with our brand values of empowering our people with the knowledge and innovation to do so, has led to the creation of the Shout! scheme. We are well on our way to achieving an engaged and expert workforce within Manpower, with more than 1000 recognitions generated in just over three months. This has translated into an increase in employee motivational levels on the one hand and improved service levels to our clients on the other. ”
Varina Nissen – MD, Manpower, Australia/New Zealand
