AUSTRALASIAN CHAPTERS – WORLD BEATERS
We are thrilled to announce that at the recent international ISES Eventworld Conference held in Hawaii in late August both the Melbourne and Sydney chapters scored impressive awards for their outstanding achievements over the past year. Competing against 41 chapters worldwide with a combined membership of more than 5000 members the Australasian chapters were the winners of two prestigious awards. The Melbourne Chapter is the recipient of the Spirit of Excellence Award for Membership Retention attaining the highest membership retention of any chapter in the world. This is an outstanding effort as there are 41 chapters across the US, Europe, South Africa and Canada! More importantly, it reflects the value that we all place on being a member of ISES and supporting the industry we work in. The Sydney Chapter won the Sprit of Excellence Award for Special Projects which honours superior achievements in special projects. The chapter won the award for its innovative series of projects throughout the year including organising the regional conference, Hurricane Katrina fundraiser and two events targeted at new members and titled the ISES Breakers. Well done to both chapters for representing the Australasian affiliate with such distinction. It is also pertinent to congratulate individual members of our affiliate who now hold important positions across the organisation and in particular Romaine Periera from International Corporate Events (ICE Pty Ltd) in Sydney who holds the leadership position as Chair of the International Relations Committee which is chartering the future course of ISES affiliates worldwide. Congratulations should also go to three of our members who were speakers at Eventworld – Brendan Burke, Anthony Vallario and Joan Loewensohn – well done on a great session! Next year’s Eventworld is being held in Montreal, Canada from August 16 to 18, and we look forward to further Australasian success.
MELBOURNE
The Melbourne Chapter has again been the recipient of an ISES International Award, this time for membership retention. This is a terrific effort and a direct result of members receiving great value from their association with ISES. Our September educational was an insight into staging large outdoor events and Kerrie Hayes took us through what goes on during Grand Final Day at the MCG. Our guest speaker for October was concert promoter Andrew McManus who, having toured such acts as Pavarotti, KISS and Meatloaf, explained what goes on behind the scenes with such big names and egos! There is definitely a good book waiting to be published after hearing some of those stories! Our final event for the year will be our Christmas function on Tuesday, November 21 and in 2007 we kick off with a pool party where we will hear all about the World Swimming Championships that Melbourne is hosting in March! 2007 promises to be another exciting year for ISES members! SYDNEY
As you’ll read in the Chairman’s message, August ended on a fantastic note when the Sydney Chapter was awarded the ISES Spirit of Excellence 2006 Chapter Award for Special Projects. These awards are fiercely sought after by more than 40 ISES chapters worldwide which represent in excess of 4500 members, so this is no small feat! A big thank you goes out to all our members for their continued support and, of course, to the special projects team. Our September Showcase was an interactive and informative event at the newly re-branded SMC Conference & Function Centre. The Drum Café got us all moving with a team drumming session, which was a tough act to follow for William Mulholland our keynote speaker. He managed to hold our attention with an insightful presentation on the legal whys and wherefores of branding and brand protection. Our monthly showcase evenings continue to be a fantastic networking opportunity for members, however, we are also getting an amazing response from our showcase sponsors, some of whom are reporting virtually instant returns on their investment in the form of direct bookings and sales. Getting involved is easy, so if you would like more information please call us on (02) 9967 8240 or send Tanya an email at sydney@ises.org.au. Most of us are ramping up for a busy, client filled silly season but don’t forget to have some fun along the way. Be sure to diarise the Sydney Chapter Christmas Party on Friday, November 24 at the Royal Automobile Club of Australia – the special projects team are at the organisational helm so it’s bound to be a winner!
