The Bone Marrow Donor Institute’s Red Ball is one of Melbourne’s premier events. The Bone Marrow Donor Institute is a registered charity dedicated to providing treatment, research, care and support for people with leukaemia and other forms of cancer.
WHAT YOU DID: Event producer, Xen, has staged the Red Ball for the Bone Marrow Donor Institute on a volunteer basis for 11 years, and co-ordinates the entire event from theming, performances, logistics, to managing the talent and speaking with Atlantic Group [V] about the venue itself. Given The Bone Marrow Donor Institute’s Red Ball was the first event at Peninsula, Xen had to ensure that everything in the brief was met.
SPECIAL TOUCHES: A wide variety of leading entertainers and performers featured at the Bone Marrow Donor Institute’s Red Ball including Cirque de Soleil, cover band 30 piece Planet Groove featured brass section from Cat Empire and strings from MSO, Matt Hetherington performing ‘New York, New York,’ with a kick line of showgirls wearing the opening night costumes courtesy of Crown Casino, Tottie Goldsmith performing ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend,’ Alyce Platt performing ‘Ballad of Lucy Jordan - She’s someone’s daughter,’ to name a few. Guests at the event were also treated to an incredible performance by Hugh Jackman. This was definitely the ‘show stopper.’This was also a very important occasion for Atlantic Group [V], the company behind Peninsula at Central Pier. It was the first event held at the venue and to mark this special occasion and christen the venue managing director and founder of Atlantic Group [V] Hatem Saleh gave a speech in which the stunning 66-metre crystal chandelier – believed to be the longest in the southern hemisphere - was turned on for the first time.
CLIENT’S COMMENT: It’s always great showcasing Melbourne as a fantastic city to host premium, high-profile, five-star events such as this. Having an event in Docklands was also new and exciting as a lot of people don’t associate it with having large scale events.
