SophieRose Wachtel, from the International College of Management in Sydney, won Amlink Technologies’ Rising Star Award for Excellence, announced on November 30, 2007.
Twenty seven applications were received for this inaugural award of $5000 from nine educational institutions in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. To apply students submitted an essay comparing manual processes and the advantages of using technology in managing events.
The award was open to all students who had studied meeting or event management full-time in 2007 at institutions with educational licenses of eventsPro, Amlink’s core event management software.
SophieRose has been studying an Associate Degree in Business, majoring in event management, since February 2006. From very early in the course Sophie showed a high degree of commitment in pursuing a career in the events industry. Sophie worked passionately on a large annual wedding expo in Sydney where she organised more than 40 exhibiting companies, using the skills she learnt at college. Her enthusiasm and dedication were quickly snapped up by a leading Sydney theming/event design company where she is working part-time while completing her studies.
When asked what she intended to spend her award on SophieRose replied, “Completing my studies next year!”
