Canberra unveils its events centre
Canberra celebrated the re-opening of the National Convention Centre (NCC) in October following a $30 million upgrade that has taken the venue to a new level of functionality and style. Mike Munro (below) was the MC for the opening night event. Pictured right is InterContinental Hotels Group chief operating officer, Keith Barr, Canberra Convention Bureau chief executive, Robyn Hendry and Crowne Plaza general manager, Matt Young. Strike Bowling opening party
Around 50 PCOs strutted their stuff at the launch party for the new Strike Bowling venue at King Street Wharf in October. There was drinking, there was eating, and there was, of course, bowling! Attendees were pitted against one another in a competition for the best scores. Pictured is the winning team, consisting of (from left to right): Paul Yui, Sheraton on the Park; Leeann Cole, Directions; Alison Fallon, Harris Jones; Greer Dixon, Carlson Marketing; and Jamie Watson, Next Stage Events.

IHG Sydney PCO famil
IHG put twenty corporate event planners through their paces recently as it showcased a selection of its InterContinental and Crowne Plaza hotels in and around Sydney. Each destination laid on a different experience for the group, such as a spectacular ‘white’ dinner at Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour, a VIP paparazzi arrival at Crowne Plaza Terrigal and a boot camp-style familiarisation of Crowne Plaza Parramatta. The trip also incorporated tours of InterContinental Sydney and Crowne Plaza hotels in Coogee Beach, Newcastle and Hunter Valley, leaving the group with a taste of the many ways IHG’s hotels can bring events to life in New South Wales. Participants included Jodie Queenan, Westpac; Liz Dani, LG; Shari Carr, Fosters Group; Tanya Payne, IHG; Emma Mohenoa, St George Bank; and Nouritza Avakian, Volvo.

Launch of Kingpin Bowling

Media and celebrities turned up in droves to get a sneak peek of Darling Harbour’s newest entertainment venue, Kingpin Bowling Lounge. Doused in neon lights, the sneak peek party showed off the venue’s capacity well, providing frozen cocktails and a bevy of cage dancers to entertain guests. Free arcade games was a highlight for many, as were the shots of Jagermeister.

Quay Events takes off
The Sydney Harbour Marriott has collaborated with major Sydney harbour venues, including MCA, Crystal Palace and Captain Cook Cruises, to create Quay Events by Marriott. The arrival of the most recent partner, Opera Point Events representing the Sydney Opera House, prompted the hotel to throw a launch party to promote the new Quay Events initiative. The partnership allows the hotel to be a ‘one-stop-shop’, maximising its options when it comes to meetings space (while the hotel boasts 550 guest rooms, its on-site conference capacity is 220 reception-style).

Mad Hatter cocktail party
The Venue Collection recently hosted a Mad Hatter cocktail event within the Great Hall of The University of Sydney. The event showcased the innovative cuisine of The Venue Collection and the iconic venues within the university. Talented students from the Sydney University Dramatic Society played the central Mad Hatter characters to the delight of guests.
