Launch of luxury
Sydney’s who’s who gathered at the Entertainment Quarter’s Horden Pavilion in Moore Park for a special evening to help the Oatley Family launch Hamilton Island’s newest five-star luxury resort, Qualia. Hosted by Channel 9’s Catriona Rowntree, the launch treated guests to a taste of what to expect when visiting the luxury getaway. The word Qualia refers to a collection of sensory experiences, which reflects the true essence of the resort.

Whole new world
More than 1100 delegates were happy to tuck into Moet et Chandon and fine pastries and desserts from French gourmet label, Lenôtre, during August when Accor staged two World of Accor expos at Sofitel Melbourne and Sofitel Wentworth Sydney. Agents, corporate buyers, MICE specialists, wholesalers and travel partners flocked to the hotels to hear about Accor’s latest product in Australia and overseas, and several were fortunate enough to walk away with prizes – including trips to Paris for Accor’s 40th anniversary, magnums of Bollinger, Sofitel’s ultra-comfortable MyBed and accommodation prizes. Zeta turns two
Hilton Sydney’s much-loved cocktail sanctuary, Zeta bar celebrated its second birthday in August with a ‘Caribbean Tiki Luxe’ themed party, attended by 500 guests. The bar was decked out in true island style with sugar cane, kentia palms, wooden crates of rum and a rickety bamboo bar on the terrace. The party also served as the launch of Ten Cane Rum in Australia, Moet Henessy’s new luxury offering. Drinks were served by staff dressed in white tuxedo jackets and bow ties, as Sinatra-esque crooner David Watkins belted out tunes atop the bar.

Taste-testing showcase
Melbourne-based meeting and event planners were treated to a taste of what Sydney and NSW have to offer when around 40 companies from various venues, restaurants, entertainment providers, and team-building operators from the region put on a showcase in August. Held at Melbourne’s Zinc at Federation Square, the free-to-attend event also gave buyers the chance to meet industry experts such as David Addison from Avanti Events, celebrity chef Michael Moore from Summit Restaurant and Paul Kenny from Staging Connections.
