PJSE take your hat off. That’s Peter Jones Special Events to those who may not be good with acronyms. Peter and his team, with the able assistance of Solution RED, created the opening for the Meetings & Events Australia Annual Awards Night at the Melbourne Convention Centre. And what a ripper it was. One of – if not the – best openings to an event we’ve seen in a long, long time. You and your team rock Pete!

A word of warning if you’re travelling to the UK anytime soon... The UK government is increasing its departure tax levies from around £55 to £85 from November, apparently because of environmental-related concerns. In our money that’s a leap of around $50 per person. If you’re taking an incentive group over there of say 100 people that’s an additional $5000 (around $14,000 in air passenger duty taxes in total). We can only hope the Australian dollar remains strong for a good while yet.

And still in Europe... one of our hard-working staffers found a nifty little iPhone app called I lingual lite which has been created by Emirates. You can download French, Italian or Arabic versions which each have basic phrases for tourists. The fun part is that you take a photograph of your mouth (with your iPhone) and then when you’re travelling around France and want to know where say the toilet is, you hold the iPhone up to your mouth and it speaks in French with your lips. If nothing else it’s certainly funny!

From our very own Jill Innamorati-Varley... Hurray for the renovations being carried out at Sydney International Airport but the duty free shopping area one is forced to walk through has expanded expedientially. Negotiating your way through is like being trapped in an IKEA store with no apparent exit sign.
