Brett McDougall has been appointed general manager, Australia of Rakso Australia Pty Ltd. Rakso Australia is the general sales agent for Philippine Airlines. Mr McDougall takes over from long-standing general manager and respected travel industry identity Mike Garcia, who retires on April 30 after 35 years with the airline. Mr McDougall joins Rakso with more than 30 years’ aviation experience, having worked with Qantas and Qatar Airways.

SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, SYDNEY

Joanna Keogh has been appointed director of communications of the Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney. Australian born Ms Keogh has an established background of more than eight years as a communications specialist with a history of building industry leading brands and managing public relations and marketing for hotels, resorts and spas. She has held varied roles across hospitality, tourism and events with recent appointments as sales and marketing manager for Select Hotels and Resorts International and marketing executive for the Golden Door Australia.

 










John Chan has been appointed marketing manager – China, Taiwan and Hong Kong for Gold Coast Tourism’s lead destination marketing organisation. Based on the Gold Coast, Mr Chan will manage GCT’s soon to be appointed Shanghai representative staff, as he leads the promotion of the city as a business events destination on behalf of the Gold Coast Convention Bureau (GCCB), with a particular focus on attracting incentive business from throughout China.

RESORT MANAGER
DAYDREAM ISLAND RESORT & SPA

Greg Betty has been appointed to the newly created position of resort manager of the Whitsundays’ Daydream Island Resort & Spa. Mr Betty’s appointment follows the resignation of general manager Andrew Keating who departed Daydream at the end of May after nearly two years to move on to another opportunity.

AUSTRALIAN ASSOCIATIONS MANAGER

Julie Sheather has been appointed to head the new joint industry-government initiative to increase the number and size of international association conventions being held in Australia. Ms Sheather has been appointed to lead the delivery of the targeted associations strategy following its launch recently by Tourism Australia, The Association of Australian Convention Bureaux Inc (AACB) and major convention centres across the country.
 

Darlene Holdsworth has been appointed to the newly created position of business events sales manager at Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef. In related news, Allana Bartels was recently appointed business events coordinator at the bureau. She has a background with Pacific Magazines, Fairfax Digital and IMG Media.

Julia Swanson has been appointed director, convention sales at the Melbourne Convention + Visitors Bureau (MCVB). MCVB CEO, Sandra Chipchase, said “Julia’s extensive experience in business events, sales, business development, public relations, sponsorship, marketing and sales delivery will add tremendous strength to the MCVB team”.
