Sydney Olympic Park bucks trend
Sydney Olympic Park has highlighted its position as Sydney’s fastest growing business, meetings, events and leisure destination with a 68 per cent increase in hotel occupancies for the year to September 2009. The increase comes on the eve of the first anniversary of the opening of the Pullman Sydney Olympic Park, western Sydney’s first five-star hotel.
During the Pullman’s first year of operations, the Sydney Olympic Park precinct has seen almost 101,000 room nights booked (60,396 for the same period to Aug 31, 2007 and 59,902 for the same period in 2008), and the Pullman has hosted more than 700 meetings, events and conferences.
“We are very excited to have reached our milestone first birthday with strong figures, despite the impact of the global financial crisis,” said general manager Marcus Hanna.
“The launch of the Pullman has taken Sydney Olympic Park to new heights in terms of hotel occupancy, finally offering a world-class five-star hotel to Western Sydney and helping to attract even more conferences and events to this vibrant precinct.
“Even more encouraging is that the final three months of 2009 look very positive with a strong return in business travel along with the hosting of a number of major events and conferences.”
Next month, Sydney Olympic Park will be the hub for the World Masters Games, and in December the precinct will host the first V8 Supercar street race for Sydney. The 2009 V8 Supercar Championship is and will incorporate a three-day celebration, with on and off-track entertainment for all ages. It is expected the event will attract more than 150,000 people over the three days, with almost 850 million homes worldwide watching the action through a global telecast.
