People are intrigued by Australia – a lot of them have heard about the great events that have been staged here and they want to know more about our facilities and what we can offer,” says Conventions Australia Chairman, Martin Winter.

Mr Winter said Conventions Australia provides a central focal point for queries, enabling event organisers to get an overview of what Australia has to offer.

The new organisation is a partnership between 14 venues and convention bureaux, representing the entire country and its eight international convention destinations – Cairns, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and the Northern Territory.

Its mission is to raise the profile of Australia and position it as the ideal business events destination, especially for association meetings.

According to Mr Winter, there are many sound business reasons for bringing events to Australia.
“For a start, organisers get value for money, professional service delivery and a commitment to their goals.
“Meanwhile delegates will have a fun, adventurous, successful and memorable experience in a truly unique environment.
“In our dealings with associations around the world, we’ve found a lot of people wanting to know why Australia is different from other attractive destinations. It really comes down to the engaging and pioneering spirit of the Australian people.
“We have an open community which embraces visitors and welcomes associations from all corners of the world. People want to visit here, and we want them to come.
“Once people have been to a meeting in Australia they understand how special it is – and they can’t wait to come back.”
He said Australia’s professionalism was evident in its track record of having hosted some of the most successful international association meetings in the world.
“We have scores of organisers who are prepared to sing our praises – which is why Conventions Australia’s marketing campaign is based on third-party endorsements. Visit our website and you can hear from association executives themselves as to why the Australian spirit made such a difference at their conference.”
Conventions Australia is a partnership of Adelaide Convention Tourism Authority, Adelaide Convention Centre, Brisbane Marketing, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Cairns Convention Centre, Darwin Convention Centre, Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Northern Territory Convention Bureau, Perth Convention Bureau, Perth Convention Exhibition Centre, Sydney Convention and Visitors Bureau and Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.
